Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated is a private, nonprofit organization of college-educated women committed to the constructive development of its members and to public service, with a primary focus on the Black community.
Founded on January 13, 1913, by 22 visionary women at Howard University in Washington, D.C., Delta Sigma Theta has grown into one of the world's largest organizations of predominantly Black, college-educated women. Since its founding, more than 300,000 women have joined the sisterhood, continuing a proud tradition of leadership, scholarship, advocacy, and service.
Today, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated has more than 1,000 collegiate and alumnae chapters located throughout the United States and around the world, including Canada, Japan (Tokyo and Okinawa), Germany, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Bermuda, the Bahamas, Jamaica, the Republic of Korea, the Arabian Gulf, Southern Africa, and West Africa.
Just weeks after its founding, the members of Delta Sigma Theta made history by participating in the Woman Suffrage Procession on March 3, 1913, in Washington, D.C. As the Sorority's first public act, their participation demonstrated a steadfast commitment to social justice, equity, and women's rights. This courageous beginning established the foundation for more than a century of impactful public service and advocacy.
For over 100 years, Delta Sigma Theta has remained dedicated to improving communities through programs that promote educational excellence, economic empowerment, health awareness, political engagement, and global involvement.

Pitt County Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated (PCAC) was chartered on January 11, 1997, by twenty-six visionary and dedicated women committed to serving, uplifting, and empowering the residents of Pitt County. Established to extend the Sorority's enduring legacy of public service, scholarship, and social action, the chapter proudly serves communities throughout Pitt County, including Ayden, Bethel, Farmville, Greenville, Grifton, Winterville, and surrounding areas.
At the time of the chapter's founding, Pitt County was experiencing a significant transformation from a predominantly rural community to a rapidly growing metropolitan area. Expansion within the region's healthcare and industrial sectors fueled population growth and increased demand for educational opportunities, health resources, civic engagement, and community-based services. Recognizing these evolving needs, the charter members deliberately expanded the chapter's outreach beyond the county seat of Greenville to ensure that residents throughout Pitt County—including those in smaller and underserved communities—benefited from the Sorority's programs and initiatives.
Guided by the principles of service, scholarship, sisterhood, and social action, the Pitt County Alumnae Chapter remains steadfast in its commitment to enhancing the quality of life for individuals and families across the county.
Through innovative programming aligned with Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated's Five-Point Programmatic Thrust, the chapter promotes educational excellence, economic empowerment, physical and mental wellness, political awareness, and international engagement.
For nearly three decades, PCAC has continued to cultivate leaders, advocate for equity, support youth and families, and partner with community organizations to address critical needs.
